Teachers’ Day is a special day to show teachers how much we appreciate them. On this day, we celebrate the special contributions that teachers have made to our communities or to a particular field.

A stipend of N75,000 each semester has been granted by the Federal Government for students enrolled in degree programs in education at public universities in Nigeria.

Additionally, as part of the deliberate effort of the government to recruit the brightest minds into the teaching profession as promised by President Muhammadu Buhari last year, students pursuing the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) will receive N50,000 as a stipend per semester.

Malam Adamu, the minister of education, made this announcement on Tuesday during a celebration of World Teachers’ Day in Eagle Square, Abuja.

Adamu, whose speech was delivered by Arc. Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, said his department would work with state governments to guarantee graduates’ employment upon graduation.

Undergraduate B.Ed, B.A. Ed, and B.Sc. Ed students in public universities would get stipends of N75,000 per semester, while NCE students will receive stipends of N50,000 each semester.

The federal government should identify a method by which the governments of the respective states could guarantee NCE graduates at the Basic Education level an automatic job.
